Its purpose is to promote the protection of karst and caves for generations to come. Their natural legacy are proven sources of increasingly rich information about the history of our planet and humanity, enabling people to act more thoughtfully, efficiently, and sustainably for the future of our environment.

The International Union of Speleology (UIS) needs help to manage and update its website. We need a website manager! Below is a description of the job; it is also posted on the UIS website.

Speleomusic competition: UIS Anthem
International Union of Speleology
The Arts and Letters Commission of the International Union of Speleology (UIS) is organizing a competition to create an anthem for the UIS. The details are below. Please forward this message to anyone or any list you believe may be interested. For more information, contact Ian Ellis Chandler below.

UIS ANTHEM: Conditions of competition
The winning entry (if one is selected) will be revealed at the Opening Ceremony of the 2013 ICS in Brno, Czech Republic, as the UIS flag is hoisted.
There is no financial award, except the honour of composing the UIS anthem.

UIS ANTHEM: Conditions of competition
- Entries must be between 60 to 90 seconds in length.
- All entries must be provided digitally to the UIS Bureau through the UIS Arts and Letters Commission (Ian Ellis Chandler).
- Entries to be received by Arts and Letters Commission by 15 April, 2012. They will be considered by the Bureau summer meeting 2012. The Bureau retains the option not to select any entry as suitable.
- The digital entry will not include lyrics. Lyrics can be attached, and a digital audio version can be presented. Lyrics can be in any of the following languages of the UIS: English, French, German, Italian, Russian or Spanish.
- Entries must be original and not based on any existing music.
- Entries should be universal and not in a style generally associated with any country.
- The style should capable of appealing for many years and not based on any particular modern style.
- Entries should try to capture the spirit of speleology.

Sponsored by the International Union of Speleology, an organization with 62 member nations, the ICS is a once-every-four-years gathering that attracts people from all over the world who have a passionate interest in caves and karst landscapes. Scientists and other serious cave enthusiasts know that ICS programs and activities give them outstanding opportunities to learn more about caves and to swap stories and promote and share ideas about all aspects of cave research and enjoyment. There’s cave exploration, cave mapping, cave science, cave microbiology, cave management, caving equipment and techniques, cave diving, cave rescue, cave photography, caving sociology, and … well, you get the picture. 15th International Congress of Speleology website
The 15th International Congress of Speleology will be held in Kerrville, Texas, USA on 19-26 July 2009. Since it is never too early to begin preparing for a great event, the website for the Congress is now available
with all of the latest information so you can start planning to attend. The goal of the website is to stay so up to date that if you don't find the information you need there, then it is likely that the information is not yet available (although you're always welcome to contact us and check).
The website is in English. Our summary leaflet is available as PDFs in French, German, and Spanish. The leaflet is currently being translated into Italian and will be posted as soon as it is ready. Later this summer,
print-quality versions of the leaflets will be available on the web too. By the end of September, the entire website will be available in French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
We encourage you to visit the website and bookmark it for future reference: www.ics2009.us
