MAMMOTH CAVE INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR SCIENCE AND LEARNING EDUCATION COORDINATOR

Western Kentucky University, Mammoth Cave International Center for Science and Learning is seeking applicants for the position of Education Coordinator at Mammoth Cave National Park. This position is full time and grant funded. Continued employment is contingent upon availability of grant funds. The position works primarily with the Director of the Mammoth Cave International Center for Science and Learning, the park’s Chief of Interpretation and Visitor Services, and the Environmental Education Specialist. The Duty Station site is Mammoth Cave National Park.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provides educational program development and support services for the Mammoth Cave International Center for Science and Learning

· Develops citizen-science modules which provide sound science for Mammoth Cave National park needs and which provide enriching science opportunities for participants

· The successful candidate will work closely with Learning Center Director and National Park Service staff to develop education and outreach materials and programs highlighting scientific research at the park

· Primary clientele for these materials and programs will be both external (mainly secondary school, university, and adult learners) and internal (park staff)

· Materials and programs to be developed may include both outreach materials (such as websites, brochures, and curricula, interactive programs (such as presentations to groups, workshops, and training sessions) and individual programs (such as overseeing interns)

· Develop externally funded proposals to support and enhance program activities

· Develop education partnerships

· Supervise research and education interns

Required Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree in a Natural Science, Physical Science, Education, or related field

· Must have experience in developing educational outreach materials and/or environmental or science educational programs in either formal or informal educational settings

· The successful candidate is expected to exercise considerable initiative and resourcefulness in planning and carrying out the assignments to completion and coordinating activities with others as necessary

· Must have experience working in a team environment

· Experience working with National Park Service

· Schedule will vary depending on programs and will include some weekends and evenings

· Working conditions will include in-cave and outdoor surface environments, hiking up to 10 miles in on and off-trail settings, and carrying up to 30 lbs while leading educational groups may be encountered. Outdoor activities may take place in inclement weather

· Some local and interstate travel is required

· A Valid Kentucky Driver’s License (or willingness to get one) is required

· A Federal Background investigation is required

Salary Grade: 110 Expected Salary Range: $46,000-48,000 per annum.
