Governor Nestor Fongwan visited the cave and pointed out some concerns in it.
According to committee chair on tourism Councilor Marvin Mayos, the governor said some portions of the steps going down the cave are steep and slippery when it rains. Railings are also lacking.
To address the problem, the funding will be spent as follows: P400,000 for waterworks for the comfort rooms; P200,000 for clearing at the entrance of the cave; and P200,000 for the repair of steps and railings.
The Provincial Tourism Office clarified that the fund is meant only for the Bengaongao Cave.
The rest of the caves located in the town will have to wait for available funding to be able to undergo repairs as well.
However, the Municipal Council is grateful the province prioritized the improvement of Bengaongao.
"This is to promote Bengaongao cave since during summer, tourists usually love to visit caves and Bengaongao is nearer than other caves," the provincial tourism office said.
Last August 6, the Philippine Councilors League, in cooperation with the community of the barangay, conducted tree planting activity around the cave to maintain fresh air; maintain the sources of water for the river within in front of the cave; and to prevent soil erosion which may occur within the cave.
